David R. Buchanan
David R. Buchanan is a partner of the firm. His areas of practice include mass tort, securities, consumer fraud, and pension litigation. Recognized as an expert in the discovery and preservation of electronic information, Mr. Buchanan has extensive experience-including as a consultant to other firms -with matters pertaining to the discovery of email, corporate databases, and other forms of "live" and archived electronic information.
Before joining Seeger Weiss in 1999, Mr. Buchanan practiced with a major Wall Street firm where he worked on complex commercial matters, including corporate change of control and securities litigation. At Seeger Weiss, he continues to focus on such matters, but now on behalf of aggrieved investors. To that end, Mr. Buchanan and Seeger Weiss have earned prominent leadership and steering committee positions in several landmark securities litigation matters, including In re IPO Securities Litigation and In re Daimler Chrysler Foreign Investor Litigation. Mr. Buchanan also represents investors in arbitration proceedings and several other individual and class action matters against public companies and brokerage firms for losses arising out of the deceptive marketing and sale of securities.
In the arena of consumer fraud, Mr. Buchanan represents plaintiffs in their claims against technology manufacturers and service providers. Recent successes for Mr. Buchanan and the firm include a $90 million settlement against MCI in In re MCI Non-Subscriber Rates Litigation (Illinois) and a $47 million settlement of claims against Apple Computer concerning its iMac personal computer. Currently, Mr. Buchanan represents purchasers of IBM hard drives, Panasonic cordless phones, and General Motors automobiles in their claims alleging deceptive marketing practices.
Mr. Buchanan also plays a prominent role in the firm’s pharmaceutical litigation practice. He currently serves as Plaintiff’s Co-Liaison Counsel in the New Jersey state mass tort proceedings concerning the withdrawn COX-2 inhibitor Vioxx. In addition, he is Co-Chair of the Discovery Committee in the federal Vioxx Multi-District Litigation (MDL). In recent years, Mr. Buchanan has served on numerous discovery, expert, legal, and/or administrative committees in several coordinated multi-district pharmaceutical litigations pending in federal courts throughout the country, including In re Rezulin Products Liability Litigation (New York), In re Propulsid Products Liability Litigation (New Orleans), and In re PPA Products Liability Litigation (Seattle).

Mr. Buchanan was born in Delaware. He graduated from the University of Delaware and earned his law degree from the Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law, magna cum laude, where he was the Administrative Editor of the Cardozo Law Review.
He is a member of the bars of New York and New Jersey, as well as admitted to practice before the United States District Courts of the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York as well as the District of New Jersey.
