Nationwide Truck Accident Statistics

The majority of the deaths, 77%, were of people in one of the other vehicle involved in the accident. The remaining percentage of fatalities consisted of pedestrians or other various bystanders.

Truck accident statistics in New York State are consistent with the nationwide statistics as a significant number of motor vehicle accidents in New York State involve large trucks. According to the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles, a total of 10,520 automobile accidents in the year 2002 involved large trucks. A breakdown of the statistics shows that these motor vehicle accidents in New York resulted in 151 fatalities in a total of 135 fatal accidents. Property damage was caused in 3,410 of the accidents involving large trucks, and 6,975 accidents resulted in personal injuries to parties involved in the accident, which did not result in fatality. Truck accidents accounted for 151 fatalities and 9,729 non-fatal injuries.
