Diet Pill Manufacturers Fined $25M
Marketers of diet pills can no longer claim that consumers will lose weight by taking them, the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) says. The companies implicated agreed to pay $25 million to settle FTC charges. The FTC indicates that the manufacturers' claims of weight-loss are not backed by scientific evidence.
TrimSpa
The marketers of TrimSpa will be fined $1.5 million to settle FTC allegations. The FTC indicates the manufacturers weight-loss claims are not supported by scientific evidence. TrimSpa's marketers -- Goen Technologies Corp., Nutramerica Corp., TrimSpa, Inc., and Alexander Szynalski will pay the total of $1.5 million.

CortiSlim and CortiStress
The seven marketers of CortiSlim and CortiStress will surrender assets worth at least $12 million to settle FTC charges that they made false and unsubstantiated claims of weight-loss and other health-related claims.
Bayer One-A-Day WeightSmart
The Bayer Corporation will be fined $3.2 million to settle FTC allegations. Their advertisements for One-A-Day WeightSmart multivitamins violated an earlier FTC order requiring that all claims for One-A-Day brand vitamins to be backed by scientific evidence.
