What is Fusarium Keratitis?
Fusarium keratitis is a serious infection of the cornea that may have potentially severe adverse effects including partial vision loss or permanent blindness if not properly treated. Cases of Fusarium keratitis are usually found in tropical or subtropical environments, but the fungus that causes the infection, Fusarium, can be found almost anywhere. The fungi can normally be found in plants and soil. The risk factors for the infection include trauma involving plant material, immunodeficiency, chronic ocular surface diseases, and contact lens use.
