What Is Rhabdomyolysis
Rhabdomyolysis is the breakdown of muscle tissue that results in the release of toxic substances. It frequently results in kidney damage. When muscle is damaged, a substance called myoglobin is released into the bloodstream. It is filtered out of the bloodstream by the kidneys, but it causes damage to the kidney, and sometimes kidney failure.
Risk factors
Severe exertion such as marathon running, drug overdoses, or alcoholism are all possible causes of Rhabdomyolysis, but recently statins such as Crestor and Zocor have been implicated as well.
