Gardasil
Gardasil is a vaccination that protects against 4 strains of the Human papillomavirus (HPV), known as HPV types 6, 11, 16, and 18. HPV Types 16 and 18 cause 70% of cervical cancer cases, and HPV Types 6 and 11 cause 90% of genital warts cases. Gardasil gained FDA approval in June 2006 for women between the age of 9 and 26.

Gardasil Side Effects
The most commonly reported side effects are pain, swelling, itching, and redness at the injection site, fever, nausea, dizziness, vomiting, and fainting. Allergic reactions, some severe, have also been reported. Among the more serious reported Gardasil side effects is Guillain-Barré syndrome, an autoimmune disease which causes varying degrees of muscle weakness and can cause total paralysis. Between July 2006 and April 2008 the CDC received 31 reports of Guillain-Barré syndrome following vaccination with Gardasil, though a causal relationship between Gardasil and Guillain-Barré syndrome has not been proven. They also received reports of 15 deaths following Gardasil vaccination, but so far none of those have been proven to be related to the vaccine.
